I am interested in aspects of identity that stem from biology. Sometimes in my work that manifests by using biological materials (such as blood in previous works) or using imagery of biological forms (cells, organs, etc). With this new series of work, I have been focusing on the imagery of the vagina; the ultimate organ that represents the portrait of female. I have always been interested in deciphering what makes us who we are; self identity, a common subject for many artists. For me, that began with under- standing the relationships with my mother and other females; however at times it seemed the differences more so than the similarities were heightened. I started to look at it a much more microscopic level, a biological understanding of self. In Rub me raw, I investigate the taboo nature of sexual pleasure and passion, a subject that to this day has never been discussed with between my mother and I. With Death Pussy, the color palette was inspired by the color of decaying organs. The central vagina seems to float above ghost images of other vaginas, echoing the loneliness and sacrifice of serving others.
