Its been over a month since my last post- life has been busy since I've gotten back home from NYC. I finally feel like I'm on summer vacation from grad school. I've been in the studio at least twice a week since I've been back but its not been super productive time. I have created anything new yet. I've been spending a lot of time cleaning my studio b/c I'll be moving into a new studio space (yay!) very soon. The new space has windows and I can not express how excited I am about this. Although I haven't been working on new pieces I have been doing a lot of planning for what I will be diving into next. I feel like my time at the residency will be extremely influential on my next body of work. The bacteria paintings in particular. I've been sketching ideas of what the work can be turned into. I'm finding it a little challenging and exciting at the same time. Since I was not able to take the actual paintings themselves home with me due to liability issues, I now have these wonderful digital images to work with. Which I don't normally do but I am starting to explore how exciting it can be. Manipulation within photoshop is starting to provide me with a new way of looking at the paintings. I plan to use the prints as a surface to work upon. I'm excited to see where I can take this work. I am also looking forward to doing some DIY laboratory stuff in my own studio. I would also like to say that I am very thankful to SVA and the faculty there for all the time, encouragement, knowledge, and awesomeness. It was a nice change to be in an environment where the faculty and students were excited by one another and eager to work together. I am so thankful I was chosen to spend time at their residency. Suzanne was a great mentor to work around and Brandon as well. All of the staff there were helpful and encouraging as well. I will definitely go back again if the opportunity arises.
